Open to all Cuban women 14 and older. Organised into neighbourhood units. Delegates are elected to secretariat posts. A wide range of national entiites work closely with the FMC in areas such as health, education and sports. It is the largest women's organization in Cuba, with a membership of 3.8 million women representing 85 percent of all women over 14. The Federation directs the National Commission for Preventing Violence Against Women and works to ensure that promoting gender equity is a central aspect of Cuba's educational and social programs. The Federation advises the government on issues relating to women and sends volunteer social workers into communities to address women's needs.
