HAVANA (PL) - Just three days before the nomination of candidates for the People's Power municipal assemblies concludes, as many as 32,368 Cubans have already been nominated, informed Roberto Diaz Sotolongo, president of the National Election Commission.
Cuban Elections Express Popular Will
This first important stage in Cuban elections is concluding with satisfactory results, to give way to another no less significant phase before the April 17 national voting.
Of the 41,604 scheduled municipal assemblies, 41,063 had been held until Saturday night, for 98.7 percent of the program and with over 84 percent attendance.
Of the total number of candidates already named, 28.37 percent are women and 23.01 percent youth, with 80 percent of them graduated from high school or the university, Sotolongo highlighted.
Election commissions in each constituency concluded home visits Sunday, aimed at updating primary electoral rolls. From March 27 on, each constituency will present the biographies of its candidates to delegates.
